The video for Scotty’s second single, “The Trouble With Girls,” from his debut album, Clear As Day has been released. You can watch the video below and see my comments after the jump.
So before I critique the video itself, there is something extremely important I must address: Could someone please hand Scotty a lint roller? Cause he has some lint or peach fuzz or something on his chin. And, frankly, it’s bugging me.
Okay, with that out of the way, let’s talk about the video. The video is just like the song, simple and straightforward. No shaky camera moves or anything else that would cause it to overpower the song. And the “storyline” of the video matches the song it goes with, something that doesn’t happen much in this day and age.
More importantly, there are none of those odd faces that Scotty often sings with. You know what I’m talking about: Those odd faces he would make while singing on American Idol. I never could figure out if he was doing that on purpose or if it was simply part of who he was. But someone must have had a word with him prior to shooting this video, because I didn’t see any weird faces at all.
Non-Country fans aren’t apt to like this video. But it does fit perfectly with Scotty’s image right now, and ever teen and tween girl watching the video as he sings “trouble with girls” in his lower register will swoon over him.
As for me, I’m hoping the video will reinforce, and even boost, his album, Clear As Day. I would like to see Scotty’s debut album go platinum, though that seems to be a milestone that is out of reach right now.
