Last Tuesday, I posted two pictures from the set of the new Christopher Nolan produced Superman reboot, Man of Steel. The pictures proved what had long-been speculated, specifically that Superman’s costume would be missing his trademark red underwear.
However, those pictures were taken from a distance. It was difficult to tell exactly what the costume looked like. In addition, the pictures made Henry Cavill’s chest and legs look like they had been padded. Badly. The suit also had a sort of rubber look to it that made it look like Henry couldn’t walk in it and caused it to stick out like a sore thumb.
Well, more pictures have been posted online, this time much closer so that we can see the suit in much clearly detail.
See the latest pictures, and some more comments, after the jump.

As you can see from the pictures above, the new costume is a radical change from every Superman costume we’ve seen in the past. It is a much darker blue than we’ve ever seen in the past. What I previously thought was a belt is actually a part of the raised design that has been built into the suit in various places, though in my defense, that does look like a buckle just below his stomach.
The suit also goes the way of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man suit, in which it looks to simply be drizzled onto the body. In other words, it is skin-tight, allowing for every muscle in Henry Cavill’s body to be highlighted. On the upside, I think it’s safe to say that Henry is not wearing any type of muscle suit. It looks to be all him. Unfortunately for me, that includes the muscle in an area of the body that I felt the red underwear drew attention to in the previous designs.
Something else that is missing in two of the three pictures, and in many more that have hit the web since my last post, is his cape. It could be that he simply loses it during a fight, or it may be that he spends most of the movie without it. Maybe it could be sort of like Wonder Woman’s cape. Great for show and meeting dignitaries, lousy to fight while wearing it. Since I haven’t decided how I feel about the new costume, I can’t say whether I prefer it with or without the cape.
So what do you think? Do these new pictures help you like the costume better? Are you firmly against it? Or are you like me and completely unsure about how you feel? And what about the missing cape?
