It’s an inescapable fact when watching singers perform on the various competition shows on television: Sooner or later, a singer will sing a song that the audience clearly remembers another singer performing. Normally, it’s a song that was done so well, it defined the first singer who sang it. And normally, the comparison is limited to the same show.

But not this time.

Last night’s performance of Aerosmith’s “Dream On” by Lys Agnes on America’s Got Talent invoked many a memory of someone who had sang that song before. Unfortunately for us, the memory was of Danny Gokey, who butchered murdered slaughtered disfigured performed the same song two years ago on American Idol.

So it seems only appropriate that we have a vote to see which version of “Dream On” was worse. And just to be thorough, I thought I would throw in Michael Johns’ version of the song from American Idol as well.

To watch Danny Gokey’s “Dream On” performance from 2009, click here.
To watch Lys Anges’ “Dream On” performance from last night, click here.
To watch Michael Johns’ “Dream On” performance from 2008, click here.

After you’ve watched all three performances, vote in the poll at the top of this blog entry and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

And for the record, THIS is how that song should be sung.

Now THAT’S music.

2 out of 3? Are you just TRYING to provoke a reaction?

  2. @ jimfreeman: Well, yes. I’m always TRYING to provoke a reaction.

But the reason Michael wasn’t in the title was because he was a last minute entry into the poll. I had forgotten that he had butchered the song as well until I ran across it on YouTube.

  3. @ jimfreeman: Can you imagine if Queen Angie or Joyce should stumble upon this post? To see both of their boys being nominated for the worst of something? Yikes!

  4. ABB says:

Michael Johns did just fine, and you boys know that! But those other two butchered the song.

And I’ll bet if Adam Lambert had sung it, he’d have done it best of all. So there. But I still would have looked away if his tongue stuck out :(

  6. Adam Lambert should have sung it. He would have nailed it too. And I could have used the song to play as Queen Angie’s theme song for years and years and years.
