It’s been 16 weeks since we first saw this season’s America’s Got Talent hopefuls take the stage to audition. Along the way, some of my favorites, like Zuma Zuma and Summerwind Skippers, stumbled on stage, leading to America not voting them further into the competition. Other favorites, like Smage Brothers Riding Show, failed to capture America’s heart and only made it as far as they did thanks to the judges.
Whatever the reason for the acts that didn’t make it to last night’s Finale, four acts did make it. They were Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., PopLyfe, Silhouettes, and Team iLuminate. These four acts took to the stage last night in a final attempt to convince America that they deserve the $1 million prize and become the headline act of a show at the Cesar’s Palace in Las Vegas.
And yes, I’m still absolutely livid at how America’s Got Talent treated the Silhouettes last night following the technical glitches. I don’t think I’m going to be getting over that anytime soon.
As a reminder, my pick to win was Team iLuminate, though I wouldn’t mind if Silhouettes won instead.
I’ll be blogging the results live after the jump.
The America’s Got Talent Season 6 Champion is: Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.
Hopefully we are in for a great Finale Results show. On paper, it looks like a good group of special guest performances. Hopefully it will also include some of the rest of the Top 10 and/or semi-finalists, as well as some of the acts from past season.
Nick Cannon is introduced and comes out wearing a simple, straight-up tuxedo. Shouldn’t be anything there for Piers Morgan to make fun of tonight. After running down a list of who will be on the show, Nick introduces the judges and then has all four acts come out on stage so he can introduce them again. And with that, it’s time for the obligatory video of what happened on the show last night.
Oops. I was wrong. Piers pokes fun at Nick wearing a bow-tie. Geez.
Piers says America had a tough time voting last night. Then he claims that America’s Got Talent is the biggest talent competition in the world.
Time for the first special duet of the night, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., and Patti LaBelle. In the pre-performance video, Patti says “I am 67, and you are 37. And we are going to rock it.” Nick starts off on stage by himself by singing “You’re All I Need.” It’s a very rough attempt for Landau, who doesn’t seem to be comfortable with the more uptempo. Patti joins him on stage and rocks it. Her presence seems to get Landau to step his game up about 10 notches, and it turns out to be an amazing duet. Had he performed like this during the season, I would have been one of his biggest fans.
Def Leppard takes the stage next. I’m not sure what they are singing, but, as always, they are good. I’ve always been amazed at their drummer, Rick Allen, who lost an arm in an accident back in 1984. Yet he’s still up there laying down the beats. Love it. Here we go. They are singing “Pour Some Sugar On Me.” Great musical memories.
Nick mentions the “minor” technical issues they had last night. They show us a video of what was happening backstage during it. Turns out, the doors backstage wouldn’t open, which kept them from being able to get the stuff the Silhouettes needed out on stage. Nice to know what happened, but that doesn’t alleviate just how LIVID I am with how the show treated the group by not playing their pre-performance video and forcing the judges to rush through their comments. And thinking about it again, is really making me even more LIVID!
Next to perform are Team iLuminate and Cobra Starship. The stage isn’t dark because of the band, but the lights on the costume are still being used as Team iLuminate dances while Cobra Starship, who also has lights on their clothes, sings their latest single, “You Make Me Feel…” As much as I love what Team iLuminate does, I am really liking being able to see them with the lights up as they full out dance. I hope they work some of this into their choreography wherever they land.
Now its time for a look at some of the auditioners who didn’t make it out of auditions, most of whom also got buzzed by all three judges.I had managed to forget about some of these people, and now I’m going to have nightmares about them all over again. Yep. The midget stripper. Didn’t need to see that again. Or The Tron Guy. What in the world made him think he had an act. Ah, yes. The “hot, hot, hot” guy.
Nick introduces the Audition All Stars. All the people we just hated in the video are now on stage performing for us again. And they are singing/performing to the song, “Time of Your Life.” Trust me, folks. I’m not having the time of my life here. Instead, I’m going to hurl.
You know what’s really sad? Many of them will probably think that being invited back to perform means they really have talent.
*sigh*
Silhouettes and LeAnn Rimes are next to take the stage. Is it me, or does LeAnn look like she’s lost 50 pounds? She’s looking like a stick now. Anyway, LeAnn is over by the judges singing an acoustic song while the Silhouettes are, once again, performing behind the screen. The Silhouettes are performing many of the routines they did during the season. It reminds me why I love their performance.
Time for more filler, this time in the form of a video of how Howie gets all over Piers nerves. Poor Piers.
One Republic takes the stage to sing “Secrets,” followed by “Good Life.” I like the first song, as it’s my second favorite song of theirs. Can’t stand “Good Life,” though. That song has never sounded right to me.
Jerry Springer is lowered down to the stage to give the details of how not only the winner of this season will headline a show at Cesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, but the other three acts will be there as well. After Jerry is lifted back up off the stage, we see what happened last night in the Orville Lounge. I could do without this bit of filler.
Tony Bennett and Queen Latifah take the stage to so a duet. On paper, it would seem like an extremely odd pairing. But it works, because the Queen has a lot of soul in her and Tony is an old-time crooner. It’s really a match made in heaven. What a great performance. I suggest you all look it up on YouTube tomorrow to watch it. You won’t be disappointed.
PopLyfe and Stevie Wonder are next to perform. Nick takes forever in introducing Stevie Wonder, though he deserves the long introduction. Tonight’s song is “Keep on Running.” Stevie sounds great. The lead singer of PopLyfe, whose name I never bothered to learn because I never expected her to make the finale, doesn’t sound good. She’s just way out of her element on this one.
This may be the highlight of the night, worth putting up with all the crap that has been thrown at us during the show. Cirque du Soleil takes the stage to perform part of their new show, “Iris.” What these people do is amazing. I can’t help but wonder how many hours of practice they have to put in each day to do this stuff. There is no way I can describe what they are doing. This is another one where you will have to go on YouTube tomorrow to look up. The danger involved in these moves are ridiculous. We could have skipped most of everything else tonight and simply had Cirque du Soleil on for an hour. That would have been entertainment.
Here we go. Time for the first result. Nick invites the Top 4 on stage. And the act in 4th place is………… PopLyfe. No surprise there.
Okay. I just realized something. A few days ago when I posted ranked the Top 4, I posted about Anna Graceman instead of PopLyfe. Why the heck did I do that? I clearly wrote the Top 4 down wrong before writing that post and never caught on. Geez. Remind me to never write a blog post again when I’ve only had a couple of hours sleep.
I did correctly rank the other three acts, and would have ranked PopLyfe in fourth place.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go wash the egg off my face during this commercial.
Okay, time to find out the next act going home. The act in third place is…………. Team iLuminate.
You have GOT to be kidding me. How in the world did they end up in third place? No freaking way. I could live, barely, with them in second place. But third place, behind Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.?
My forehead vein is throbbing.
Last season’s second-place finalist Jackie Evancho takes the stage next. I love her voice and have ever since she first auditioned last season. I always find it incredible when a youngster like this has such a powerful voice. And that voice is in fine form again tonight. Is it too late to ask for a recount of last season’s votes? Especially since I’m planning to ask for a recount of last night’s votes.
Time to find out who is in second place this season and who wins the whole thing.
Second place: Silhouettes
First place: Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.
NO NO NO NO NO ON NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!THIS DID NOT JUST HAPPEN. LANDAU DID NOT JUST WIN!
How in the world did this happen? Why the heck did America vote for yet another singer to win this competition? Especially when the dancers were 10 times more talented than the singers were. What in the world?
So there you have it. The winner of Season 6 of America’s Got Talent is *cough*hack*sputter*spew*Landou Eugene Murphy, Jr.*cough*hack*sputter*spew* Are you happy with who won? Or, like me, are you swearing off the show from now until the end of eternity?
Vote in the poll at the top of the blog entry. And leave your thoughts in the comments below.
And don’t forget to join me tonight at 11 PM ET / 10 PM CT for the Idol Radio Show.

I am SOOOOOO happy for Landau!!! His performance last night was outstanding, he really saved the best for last. I really loved Silhouettes too and thought they would win for sure, but I hope Landau could somehow pull it off, can’t believe he actually did!!! He was GREAT and a total class act, I’m glad America felt the same way..
