“American Idol” 2012 – Season 11 Schedule

American Idol

The schedule for the new American Idol season was released recently. We’ll have to once again put up with eight audition shows, something that causes fans to cry foul about by the time the fourth audition show rolls around. This year, however, all but two of those audition shows will only be one-hour long, so maybe the powers-that-be did somewhat listen to our complaints. Now, hopefully, we’ll see more of the good auditions and less of the bad auditions.

Hollywood Week will begin on Thursday, February 9, with the expected Group Round given a two-hour show. What is being billed as a Performance Challenge is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22. This is probably going to be similar to the Las Vegas date that was added after Hollywood Week last year. On Thursday, February 23, we will find out who the semifinalists will be. No word on how many contestants will make it through this night, though we know from spoilers that have been posted that 42 contestants will be left following the Performance Challenge.

The only three-day week this season will occur the week the semifinalists take the stage. On Tuesday, February 28, the first group of semifinalists will take the stage, which will also mark the 400th episode of American Idol. Not sure how much celebrating they will do since there is business to take care of, but I’m sure they will mark it somehow. The second group of semifinalists will take the stage on Wednesday, February 29, with the voting results and judges’ wild cards being revealed on Thursday, March 1.

And that means the Top 12 Finalists will take the stage on Wednesday, March 7, with the first results show taking place on Thursday, March 8.

Above is all that FOX and American Idol released regarding their Season 11 schedule. I have worked out the expected rest of the schedule below, which does assume the normal single elimination each week. While no times are listed below, it is expected that all results show will be an hour long with the Finale Results show two-hours long. The performance shows will start at two-hours and go down to 90 minutes (likely either the Top 10 or Top 9 shows). When it will go down to an hour will depend if they start singing two songs each at the Top 5 or wait until the Top 4.
